Chamber welcomes Government stand on Working Time Directive
11-05-2008, Malta: The Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise welcomed the agreement on Working Time Directive (WTD) reached during this week's EU Employment and Social Affairs Council in Luxembourg.Highlights
- The Chamber supports the Maltese Government's position on the draft proposal for providing a maximum capping of working time per week, set at 60 hours averaged over a three-month period which is extendable through collective agreement
- The Chamber insists that the Government's proposal for this is to be capped at 65 hours, instead of 60 hours, over a three-month period
- The Chamber suggestes that employers and employees should be left flexible to decide the right balance of work hours while maintaining their goals to reach better competitiveness and productivity.
