A senior state official in China has listed the disclosure of information related to gambling as one of the top worrying issues for China’s government.
Wang Chen who is China’s minister for State Council Information Office discussed his worries at the eighth Chinese internet media forum. He called for online media to prioritise social integrity and transparency. Mr Chen stated that the online provision of gambling and pornography was in close proximity to online harassment amongst others in terms of social tarnishing.
The minister clearly indicated that the current trends were posing serious challenges to the Chinese Governments efforts at regulating the nation’s online community. He stressed that online stakeholders should come forward and assist the government in identifying and halting ‘objectionable’ services via the internet.
The minister’s statements come in the wake of China’s aggressive clampdown on its users cyberspace and the hefty measures being taken to prevent online stakeholders from providing content which is not in line with China’s legislation.
